FAQ

Q. What is Maternal Mortality?
A. According to the World Health Organization, “Maternal death is the death of a woman while pregnant or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy, irrespective of the duration and site of the pregnancy, from any cause related to or aggravated by the pregnancy or its management but not from accidental or incidental causes.”

Q: What causes maternal mortality?
A: The main preventable causes of maternal mortality include Anemia, malnutrition, hemorrhage during delivery, complicated labor, and Sepsis.

Q: How can maternal mortality be prevented?
A: A few simple interventions can reduce the mortality by 75-90%. Save A Mother proposes to reduce maternal mortality by training local Health Activists to educate pregnant women in pre-natal care, post-natal care and encourage institutional delivery. The Activists work as health educators and motivators for pregnant women, encouraging them to seek health care from existing public facilities. They do not replace public health workers, but supplement them. Learn more About us.

Q: What Is Save A Mother?
A: Save A Mother’s mission is to develop health care solutions for the poor, beginning with reducing maternal mortality. The organization educates women to be Health Activists (Swasthya Sakhis) for their villages. The Primary Health Activists educate villagers on healthy practices, connect pregnant women to well-equipped health facilities, and monitor all of the pregnancies in the village closely to ensure the proper steps to ensure a safe delivery are being taken.
